MiniBore

Overview

Sumter Transport has developed the MiniBore, a transport vehicle that has the capabilities of bulking hazardous waste of various compositions. The MiniBore uses the Roberoller agitation system to maintain a uniform mixture within the transport vessel. The purpose of the MiniBore is to safely transport hazardous waste that can be recycled for energy recovery. The vehicle has the capabilities of collecting liquid, sludge and light solid materials.

Sumter Transport owns a fleet of MiniBore transport vehicles, and markets their services to EPA hazardous waste generators, transfer facilities, and permitted treatment, storage, and disposal facilities within the United States. The MiniBore has the capabilities of bulking from non-bulk waste containers (i.e. 55-gallon steel drums). Sumter Transport feels that transferring the collected waste from non-bulk containers to their tanker truck will facilitate a safer mode of transportation due to the fact that their transport tanker is a DOT approved, stainless steel vessel. Once collected, the Roberoller agitation system suspends the solidified materials within solution during transport to permitted facilities that are licensed to burn hazardous waste for energy recovery.

An Overview of Sumter Transport's Process

Sumter Transport will remove wastes drums at customer sites and bulk the waste within the MiniBore. Wastes that are added to the tanker truck will be aggregated with other waste being collected in the tanker. The Roberoller, a device within the vehicle, will continuously rotate the wastes that have been added to the tanker to promote homogeneity and discourage separation within the tanker. Waste added to the vehicle will be added for the purpose of safe transport only. No waste will be blended or treated within the tank itself. All waste collected in the vessel will be transported to a permitted hazardous waste management facility that will accept the waste, blend the waste to meet fuel specifications, then burn the materials for energy recovery (e.g. Cement Kilns).

Summary

Sumter Transport has made extensive efforts to provide their customers with an alternative choice for hazardous waste transportation. Along with the benefits of cost reduction, safety, and possible lessened liability issues, Sumter Transport has managed to ensure that both they, and their customers are in compliance with the Federal Environmental Protection Agency hazardous waste management requirements. The MiniBore will be capable of transferring waste from non-bulk containers to a larger, DOT approved, bulk container.
